In an effort to ensure up-to-date knowledge transfer and to enhance knowledge and research skills, Tomasz Halon, Ph.D. of the Division of Refrigeration and Heat Pumps participated in the workshop of the 10th International Advanced Course on Liquid Interfaces: Drops and Sprays organized by the University of Pavia. The training took place in June 10-14, 2024, and was conducted by specialists and researchers from renowned universities from Italy, the UK, Canada and Iran.

The training discussed the latest issues of fluid mechanics and heat transfer in droplet and spray flow. The detailed program covered:

  • Fluid mechanics at the phase boundary.
  • Surface tension and measurement techniques.
  • Dynamics of droplets deposited on a surface.
  • Collision of a droplet with a solid surface.
  • Heat and mass exchange in droplets.
  • Interaction of droplets with heated surfaces.
  • Superhydrophobicity.
  • Fundamentals of atomization.
  • Measurements in droplets and aerosols.
  • Mechanics of non-Newtonian droplets.
  • Microfluidics and microfluidics.
  • Numerical simulations of atomizers.
  • Application of artificial intelligence in fluid mechanics.
