On December 1, 2022, the 1st Inter-school Refrigeration Days were held at ZS18 on Młodych Techników Street in Wroclaw. The event, organized by the teaching team of ZS18, was also attended by representatives of the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering.
The highlight of the day was an inter-school competition in which teams from five refrigeration-profiled schools in Ostrów Wielkopolski, Zabrze, Wodzislaw Śląski, Łódź and Wrocław competed against each other. Five teams of three built a low-temperature compressor dehumidifier with hot gas defrost and by-pass. In the three hours allotted for the activity, each team had to, among other things, choose a system concept, make piping, use the right expansion valve, choose the right filter, etc. The entire system was to be installed on a self-built rack, and its tightness had to be confirmed by conducting a nitrogen pressure test. The evaluation team included ZS18 teachers, a representative of Area Cooling Solutions, and Bartosz Zajączkowski, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof. as a representative of the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering.
Meanwhile, branch-related demonstrations were held on the school grounds. Michal Stanclik, PhD, (Department of Cryogenics and Aerospace Engineering) demonstrated interesting phenomena related to liquid nitrogen.
In the second part of the day, two lectures were given by: Stefan Reszewski, PhD, (Department of Thermal Sciences, Division of Refrigeration and Heat Pumps) and Jarosław Poliński, PhD, DSc, Assoc. Prof. (Department of Cryogenics and Aerospace Engineering).
The event ended with a prize-giving ceremony for the winners. The refrigeration knowledge contest and the main prize sponsored by the Wroclaw company Wigmors was won by a team from Technikum nr 3 w Łodzi. Congratulations!
