The initiative to create the Division of Nuclear Power Engineering results from the desire to strengthen the position of the Department of Thermal Sciences and more broadly the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering in the field of nuclear energy. In particular, facing the current and future changes which accompany the transformation of Polish energy sector related to the implementation of the "Polish energy policy until 2040" program and the "Polish Nuclear Energy Program".
Andrzej Tatarek, PhD, Assoc. Prof. was appointed as the Division head.
Andrzej Tatarek, PhD, Assoc. Prof. and Wojciech Zacharczuk, PhD has been dealing with problems of conventional and nuclear energy generation in the didactic and scientific contexts for many years. They took an active part in signing cooperation agreements between the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering and such companies as the French Framatome, Korean KEPCO or the American Westinghouse. They have completed a number of organizational and educational works, including developing the curriculum of the specialization Energetyka jądrowa (in Polish) and more recently the specialization Nuclear Power Engineering (in English). They participated in the organization of international summer schools in the field of nuclear energy and numerous site-visits for students at nearby power plants (NPP Bohunice, NPP Mochovce, AKW Zwentendorf) and the National Centre for Nuclear Research in Świerk.
Establishing the Division of Nuclear Power Engineering enables further development of the didactic and scientific offer of the Department and the Faculty, increasing the competences and importance of both units in this important thematic area.
